Joan and Danny.jpg

Joan

Many years ago I was drawn into the horse world by my heart strings. Little did I know how much my life would change because of the horses that I’ve come to love. It started with a struggling race horse named Patron Blue Chip (Rasa). One day when visiting the training facility where he was boarded, he went to great lengths to capture my attention. On seeing me approach, he shook his head up and down and all around and then proceeded to do the strangest mouthing contortions I’ve ever seen. Once he was certain he had my attention he dropped his head to the ground and from that position pointed his nose toward the ceiling and continued with those strange mouthing contortions. I couldn’t get him off my mind or out of my heart thereafter. It’s been a long journey since, but ten years and a deep friendship with three more race horses later, we have finally landed here on this farm together.  This is not something that I was actively seeking, but inevitably my deep connection to these incredible beings led to a mutual adoption.  I am an example of the power of their influence to shift humans’ perceptions and agendas.

THE TEAM

Danny.jpg

danny

Majestic, intuitive, powerful, athletic, Danny constantly reminds the herd that he is the boss. He is independent, explosive, competitive, intelligent, confident, a planner - he oversees and masterminds. Danny has a need to be in charge and to take control. When it comes to humans, Danny is a perfectionist and seems to excel in what he puts his focus on.  Danny aims to please. He admires humans. At times it seems that he thinks he is human. He appears to prefer the company of humans to horses.

Rasa.jpg

rasA

Affectionate, tender, Rasa expresses his emotions with a throwing of his head and dramatic mouth contortions. He made it very clear that he did not enjoy being a race horse. He is kind, soft-hearted, loveable, self dismissive-in a "just ignore me, I’ll be okay" kind of way. Rasa waits his turn, is introspective, seems happy to be alone and in his own company, but he also has a wild streak and does not like to be contained. Rasa has the kind of character that draws people to want to protect him. On the other hand he’s the first horse to comfort a human if he’s aware of a deep upset.

Sam+full+frontal.jpg

SAM

Sam is a cautious, hesitant, and a highly sensitive soul. He is loyal, a good horse-friend to the horses he likes, but sometimes, he needs his space. He is super sweet, warm and affectionate, but on his terms. Once Sam decides he trusts and likes someone he’ll approach and stay very close or gently grab and hold clothing in an attempt to hang out closely for a while. Sam has a particular affinity for men, but anyone that he blesses with his attention, will feel the power of his presence.

Diego behind Danny.jpg

DIEGO

A playful pest — Diego creates trouble and runs, then boomerangs back to pester again, guaranteed to make you laugh. He is the youngest of the herd, a teenager at heart, a bright horse and the first to know if there’s a fence opening that he can go though or a loose fence post that he can knock down or if there is a situation in which he can stir up trouble. Diego is very loveable light-hearted, laid back and has a wonderful equine sense of humour.
